May Connections
May is Older Americans Month, and the theme is Powered by Connection, recognizing the impact of meaningful relationships and social connections on our well-being.
I have cultivated many meaningful relationships with the Myasthenia Gravis community and spent a rewarding three days with those impacted by the disease through diagnosis or caregiving at the 2024 MGFA Patient Conference in Tampa, FL.
In the intricate tapestry of caregiving, where responsibilities often intertwine with emotional complexities, meaningful relationships and support systems emerge as beacons of strength and resilience.
As you can see from our session with support dogs, connections and support come from many sources. Attendees could pet the dogs and talk to the owners after the presentation.
Meaningful relationships and robust support systems are indispensable pillars of well-being in caregiving. By fostering empathy, reciprocity, and collaboration within our social networks, we can cultivate a support system that sustains us through the highs and lows of our journey.
May is Older Americans Month. The month is dedicated to recognizing the contributions and achievements of older adults and highlighting the importance of supporting and honoring them in their communities.
The observance was established in 1963, when President John F. Kennedy met with members of the National Council of Senior Citizens and designated May as “Senior Citizens Month.” The name was later changed to Older Americans Month to better reflect the diversity of the older adult population
